Engine & Truck Ops in Cromwell CT

August 7th & 8th 2010: Instructors from Capitol Fire Training traveled to Cromwell Connecticut in Middlesex County to hold a two day "Back 2 Basics" engine and truck company operations class. Students came in from Cromwell, Middletown, Rocky Hill, and Westfield. Class consisted of half a day of lecture and discussions, and the remainder hands on.

Running The Long Line

Engine companies throughout the nation have different attack lines for different uses. Regardless of urban, suburban, rural, commercial, or military fire department; all departments should become familiar with running a "long line." These long lines, ranging from 300 feet to 500 feet are much more practical and maneuverable than a "leader-line" or "garden-apartment evolution." Too often companies get used to running a crosslay or building a line to suit their needs, but reality is that a long line will get most companies in a position to have a position impact and achieve the goal, putting the fire out.

2 Bridgeport Firefighters Die in Line of Duty

On Saturday July 24th two firefighters with the Bridgeport Fire Department in Bridgeport Connecticut died in the line of Duty while battling a house fire on Elmwood Ave. in Bridgeport Connecticut. The two firefighters, Lt. Steven Velazquez and firefighter Michel Baik were the two fire fighters who were identified. Please take the time to pray for these brothers, the families, and the rest of the Bridgeport Fire Department.
